Good news- we signed a lease for an apartment in Forest Hills!

It is a 1 BR about the same size as our current (hardly occupied) apartment but has a little more character, more defined halls and is $540 more a month (we're paying $890 now). The location is awesome- it's on Austin Street, just a block in from Ascan, the non-residential side.

The kitchen is a lot bigger than our old joint and can actually fit our dining table and chairs. There is a long hallway which will probably be filled up with bookcases, a desk and possibly my sewing machine. The living room is a nice size and is set off from the hallway and is the bedroom. The bathroom is quite small but at least it has a tub, just in case I feel like scrubbing it out and taking a bath. The bathroom sink is nice. It's on the corner of the building so the bedroom has windows on two walls.

Josh says it is really bright during the day. It has half the closets of our old place (3 versus 6) and they're half the size but we're going to rent a storage cage in the basement. There is a doorman every weeknight from 6-10. The lobby is nice, even sort of fancy, with paintings and terrazo. We have it as of Dec. 1st but we probably won't move in until the weekend after.

Only downside is there is no garage in the building and parking is a bitch in Forest Hills. We're just going to suck it up and shell out the extra money for a monthly spot in a public garage.

We're on the top floor so no need to worry about loud neighbors who bowl and stomp around at all hours. Only one next door neighbor (a middle aged woman) because we're next to the stairs (and across from the elevator.

I'm very excited.
